Bengaluru: Albertsons Companies, Inc., a food and drug retailers in the United States, has announced the appointment of Sunil Gopinath as Chief Executive Officer of Albertsons Companies India, its newly established global technology and innovation center in Bengaluru.
As CEO, Sunil Gopinath will oversee the development of Albertsons Companies India into a strategic global capability center.
The Bengaluru hub is focused on creating proprietary technology solutions that modernize core retail systems, integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, and accelerate enterprise-wide digital transformation.

The center will collaborate closely with Albertsons teams in the U.S. and Manila to deliver innovative products and solutions that enhance the shopping experience for more than 40 million customers weekly.

Over the next 18 months, Albertsons Companies India will onboard associates across roles in customer experience, eCommerce, merchandising, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, and advanced AI-driven functions.

With more than 25 years of experience in building and scaling global technology operations, Sunil Gopinath brings extensive leadership expertise to Albertsons Companies.
Prior to this role, he served as CEO of Rakuten India, where he led large-scale digital transformation projects and managed high-performing technology teams. His career spans global enterprises and digital innovators with a strong focus on retail, eCommerce, and digital platforms — positioning him to drive Albertsons Companies India as a key hub for innovation and growth.
