New Delhi: In a groundbreaking step toward inclusive digital skilling, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has launched the Llama-powered Skill India Assistant (SIA) in collaboration with Meta.
This first-of-its-kind AI-based initiative uses Meta’s open-source Llama models to deliver real-time skilling support through WhatsApp, enabling millions across India to explore job opportunities and skill development resources.
Accessible on WhatsApp at +91 8448684032 and on the Skill India Digital Hub, Llama-powered Skill India Assistant allows users to search for skilling courses, locate nearby training centers, and discover employment opportunities customized to their interests.
The platform, developed with support from Sarvam AI, aligns with the government’s vision of bridging the digital divide through smart, scalable, and accessible solutions.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, stated, “The Skill India Assistant brings cutting-edge AI into the hands of the common citizen. Using WhatsApp—a platform familiar to millions—we’re delivering skilling guidance where it matters most. This is not just about innovation; it’s about ensuring that access to learning and economic progress reaches everyone, everywhere.”
Shivnath Thukral, Vice President and Head of Public Policy, Meta India, added, “The Skill India Assistant demonstrates how open-source AI can power social impact at scale. We’re proud to support India’s digital public infrastructure and contribute to a future where technology and opportunity are truly inclusive.”
