Pune: Pontaq-backed e-Vidyut, an electric mobility startup, has officially commenced the commercial rollout of its patented retrofitment technology in Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone in India’s clean transportation journey.

Certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), e-Vidyut is one of only two companies in India to hold this recognition and uniquely the only one certified for both two-stroke and four-stroke three-wheeler autorickshaws.

This pioneering certification positions the company at the forefront of India’s three-wheeler electric mobility revolution.

On the first day of its Maharashtra launch, e-Vidyut registered 30 autorickshaws, highlighting the growing demand for retrofitment solutions in the country.

With more than 35 lakh autorickshaws in India aged between 5 to 15 years, the company aims to retrofit at least 50,000 vehicles in the next two years, significantly reducing fuel costs and emissions.

At the core of this initiative is e-Vidyut’s Electromotion RetroKit, an ARAI-certified and RTO-approved solution that enables drivers to convert existing petrol and diesel autorickshaws into electric vehicles at a fraction of the cost of purchasing new EVs.

The kit offers a certified range of 132 km per charge, helps drivers cut daily fuel expenses by up to 70%, and reduces over 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per vehicle annually.

Surya Pratap Singh, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of e-Vidyut, said: “Our commercial rollout in Maharashtra is just the beginning. The response validates the urgent need for retrofitment in India’s vast three-wheeler ecosystem. With over 35 lakh vehicles ready for conversion, we are committed to scaling this solution to make mobility sustainable, affordable, and impactful for every auto driver.”

Backed by cross-border venture capital firm Pontaq, e-Vidyut has benefited from strategic mentorship, market access, and growth capital, enabling it to accelerate its expansion.

Looking ahead, e-Vidyut plans to extend its retrofitment rollout beyond Maharashtra to six additional states, including Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Gujarat, over the next two years.

The expansion aims to create a nationwide retrofitting movement that will uplift thousands of livelihoods while accelerating India’s electric mobility transition.
