Berlin: Autonomous driving innovator MOTOR Ai has raised $20 million in seed funding to accelerate the deployment of its Level 4 autonomous driving software across Europe.
With operations already underway in Germany under safety driver supervision, MOTOR Ai’s breakthrough platform is poised for full regulatory type approval by 2026.
The funding round was led by Segenia Capital and eCAPITAL, with participation from high-net-worth individuals in Germany. The capital will fund MOTOR Ai’s final steps toward European road certification, and its subsequent rollout of commercial autonomous services.

Science-Driven, Safety-First Autonomy
What sets MOTOR Ai apart in a competitive global market is its neuroscience-inspired cognitive architecture built on active inference – a model that allows AI systems to make structured, transparent decisions rather than opaque, reactionary ones.
Unlike many U.S. providers that rely on black-box prediction models, MOTOR Ai delivers traceable, explainable AI for autonomy, fully compliant with Europe’s highest regulatory standards.
The platform meets or exceeds:
- UNECE regulations
- ISO 26262 (ASIL-D)
- EU Regulation 2022/1426
- AFGBV (Autonomous Vehicles Approval and Operation Ordinance)
- GDPR and the EU AI Act
- Cyber Resilience Act provisions
Roy Uhlmann, CEO & Co-founder, MOTOR Ai, said: “Our solution prioritizes transparency and safety. We don’t believe in black-box autonomy. Instead, we’re creating systems that are inspectable, certifiable, and engineered to earn public trust – exactly what Europe needs.”
Autonomy as a Service, Made in Germany
MOTOR Ai’s software stack powers a growing fleet of vehicles operating in several German districts, with full autonomy targeted for 2026. The company’s vehicles currently include onboard safety drivers, fulfilling legal requirements for technical supervision until certification is finalized.

Founded in 2017, MOTOR Ai has developed its entire autonomy stack in-house in Berlin, working closely with federal certifiers and regulators to ensure complete alignment with European public safety norms.
Michael Janßen, General Partner, Segenia Capital, commented: “In Europe’s highly regulated infrastructure, compliance and transparency are key. MOTOR Ai has built a model for how safe autonomy should scale—rooted in engineering excellence and public accountability.”
Lucas Merle, Principal at eCAPITAL, added: “This Made-in-Germany technology reduces dependence on foreign systems while enabling Europe to lead in critical innovation areas like autonomous driving.”
MOTOR Ai: Scaling the Infrastructure of Safe Autonomy
MOTOR Ai envisions its certified driving system as a future-proof infrastructure layer that empowers Europe’s smart mobility transformation. Its fully explainable and regulation-aligned system offers a clear path to trustworthy, scalable autonomous vehicles.
With type approval expected by 2026, the company is now positioned to lead Europe’s shift toward safe, transparent autonomy, setting a new benchmark for global standards in autonomous mobility.
