Indian Navy Commissions DSC A20

Kolkata: Titagarh Rail Systems (TRSL), a leading Indian engineering and mobility solutions provider, has delivered the first indigenously built Diving Support Craft (DSC), DSC A20, to the Indian Navy.

This handover marks a major milestone for Titagarh Rail Systems under the Ministry of Defence’s Make in India initiative.

The ceremony was held in Kolkata in the presence of Commodore Aravind Chari, CSO (Tech), Southern Naval Command, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The vessel is the first in a fleet of five Diving Support Crafts being constructed by Titagarh Rail Systems for the Navy.

Specifications and Capabilities of DSC A20

DSC A20 has been designed with a catamaran-type hull to assist the Navy’s Command Clearance Diving Teams in critical underwater operations, including ship repair, maintenance, and salvage in harbour areas. It also doubles as a training platform for the Navy’s diving teams, strengthening overall operational readiness.

The 32.9-metre-long and 13-metre-wide vessel has an endurance of 72 hours at economical speed, supported by a 25% reserve fuel capacity. Powered by two engines of 1,342 KW each, DSC A20 achieves a cruising speed of 11 knots and accommodates up to 18 personnel.

Umesh Chowdhary, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Titagarh Rail Systems, said: “The delivery of DSC A20 is a significant milestone for us and reflects our increasing contribution to India’s maritime sector. With indigenous design and shipbuilding capabilities, we are proud to strengthen the Navy’s readiness with vessels built entirely in India.”

The delivery of DSC A20 holds special significance as it is the first Indian Naval Commissioned Vessel to be constructed and delivered by a private shipyard in Bengal.

This achievement underscores the growing role of Titagarh Rail Systems in India’s maritime and defence ecosystem, showcasing its expertise in delivering complex and high-precision vessels for the armed forces.
