Equinix CN1: AI-Ready Data Center Launched in Chennai with USD 69M Investment

Chennai: Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) has officially opened its first International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Chennai, India.

The new facility, Equinix CN1, represents an initial investment of US$69 million and is designed to accelerate India’s growth as a technology and AI-driven innovation hub.

Located on nearly six acres of land in Siruseri, Tamil Nadu, Equinix CN1 is strategically connected to the company’s Mumbai campus, which houses three IBX data centers.

The Chennai facility is purpose-built to support India’s rapid cloud adoption, digital sovereignty requirements, and increasing demand for AI-ready infrastructure.

Equinix CN1: AI-Ready Data Center with Advanced Capabilities

In its first phase, Equinix CN1 offers 800 cabinets of capacity, with a planned expansion to 4,250 cabinets. The facility is engineered for 99.999% uptime and supports Equinix interconnection services, including Equinix Fabric, enabling enterprises to build secure, hybrid multicloud architectures.

The Chennai data center also integrates liquid cooling technology to handle high-density, compute-intensive workloads essential for AI, machine learning, and other advanced digital applications.

Expanding Digital Ecosystem in India

Equinix currently supports more than 300 companies in India, including major network service providers and five internet exchanges. With CN1, businesses in Chennai gain direct, low-latency access to cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud.
