BIS and IIT Bombay Host Startup Meet, Attracts 100+ Entrepreneurs

Mumbai: In a major initiative to bridge innovation with quality and regulatory compliance, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in partnership with IIT Bombay’s Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), hosted a high-impact Startup Meet at the IIT Bombay campus.

The event drew participation from over 100 startups, entrepreneurs, and innovators, aiming to deepen awareness about the importance of standards and conformity assessment in accelerating growth and market readiness.

The event served as a platform for vibrant dialogue among emerging startups, regulatory professionals, and academic leaders on how standardization can boost product quality, customer trust, and international market access.

Key dignitaries at the Startup Meet included Prof Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay; Shaji Varghese, CEO, SINE; Reena Garg, Deputy Director General (Standardization), BIS; and Deepak Kumar Aggarwal, Scientist-F, BIS.

Together, they emphasized the need for early integration of national and global standards within the innovation process, especially for young startups aiming for scalability and long-term sustainability.

In her address, Reena Garg stressed that, “Integrating standardization early in the startup journey is key to ensuring product safety, interoperability, and consumer trust. BIS is committed to empowering India’s startup ecosystem through knowledge-sharing and strategic support.”

The sessions included discussions on regulatory pathways, conformity assessments, and case studies on how adhering to BIS standards can enhance competitiveness in both domestic and international markets. Entrepreneurs were also provided guidance on navigating the standards framework relevant to their sectors.

The event reaffirmed BIS’s commitment to supporting startups through technical guidance, training, and simplified access to Indian Standards, thus playing a crucial role in aligning India’s innovation ecosystem with global benchmarks.
