Raj Rathi Takes Charge as Head of M&A at Citi India

Chennai: Citi India has announced the appointment of Raj Rathi as Head of Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) in India, effective June 2026.

Based in Mumbai, Raj Rathi will also take on sector coverage responsibilities for Digital Infrastructure, Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS), and select B2B commerce companies.

In his new role, Raj Rathi will lead Citi’s M&A franchise in India, driving strategic advisory across complex and high-value transactions.

Raj will also focus on strengthening client relationships across priority sectors while working closely with teams across Investment Banking, Markets, and other product groups to deliver integrated solutions.

Raj Rathi brings over 15 years of experience in investment banking, M&A, and investment advisory.

Prior to joining Citi, Raj Rathi served as Head of Strategy and Corporate Development at Dream Sports.

During his tenure, Raj led strategic partnerships and inorganic growth initiatives, deploying approximately $150 million across multiple investments.

The appointment of Raj Rathi comes at a pivotal time for Citi India’s Investment Banking business. The firm has consistently been ranked the #1 M&A advisor in India by deal value for 2024 and 2025, reflecting its strong execution capabilities and deep client relationships.

Recent landmark transactions further highlight Citi’s advisory strength. These include its role as exclusive financial advisor on the 100% stake sale of Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited for United Spirits Limited, as well as the 49% stake sale in Haier India for Haier Group.

With Raj taking charge of M&A operations, Citi aims to further strengthen its leadership in India’s investment banking landscape and expand its advisory footprint across high-growth sectors.
