Pieter Elbers Resigns as IndiGo CEO with Immediate Effect; Rahul Bhatia Takes Interim Charge

Pieter Elbers will be stepping down as the Chief Executive Officer of InterGlobe Aviation Limited, which operates IndiGo airline, with immediate effect. The development marks a significant leadership transition for the airline.

In an official announcement, the Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation confirmed that Pieter Elbers will no longer continue in his role as CEO. The Board acknowledged his service and contribution during his tenure at the company.

“The Board of Directors would like to thank Pieter for his contribution and service to the organization and wishes him well in his future endeavours,” the company said in its statement.

Following the exit of Pieter Elbers, Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo, will assume responsibility for managing the airline’s affairs on an interim basis. The arrangement will remain in place until the company appoints a new leader, a process that the airline indicated is expected to conclude in the near term.

According to the announcement, Rahul Bhatia will oversee the airline’s management and operational direction during this transition period.

Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman of the Board, said: “Rahul returns to assume management of the affairs of the airline to strengthen the Company’s Culture, reinforce Operational Excellence and deepen its commitment to delivering exceptional service of care, reliability and professionalism to its customers.”

In his statement, Rahul Bhatia emphasized his longstanding association with the airline and reiterated his commitment to its stakeholders and operational priorities.

“Having founded and nurtured IndiGo for twenty-two years, I feel a deep sense of personal commitment and responsibility towards our nation, and towards the airline’s customers, employees, shareholders, and all other stakeholders,” said Rahul Bhatia.

He further added:

“While placing Culture, Service Excellence and Stakeholder Trust at the forefront of its operations, IndiGo will continue to sharpen its strategic focus on serving India and her people with an airline that is professionally managed, operationally reliable and globally respected.”

The leadership transition follows the departure of Pieter Elbers from the CEO position, as the airline prepares to announce its next chief executive in due course.

During the interim period, Rahul Bhatia will guide the airline’s operations while maintaining focus on organisational culture, service standards, and operational reliability.
