Leadership Change at ZF: Mathias Miedreich to Succeed Holger Klein as CEO

Friedrichshafen, Germany: ZF Friedrichshafen AG has announced a significant leadership change at the top management level. The Supervisory Board has appointed Mathias Miedreich as the new Chairman of the Board of Management, effective October 1, 2025.

The decision follows a mutual agreement with current CEO Dr Holger Klein to end his tenure early on September 30, 2025. Mathias Miedreich, who joined the Board of Management in January 2025 and leads the Electrified Powertrain Technology division, will take over as the new CEO of ZF.

In addition, Prof Dr Peter Laier, Board Member responsible for Commercial Vehicle Solutions, Industrial Technology, Materials Management, Production, and the India region, will also step down on the same date following mutual agreement with the Supervisory Board.

Mathias Miedreich to Lead ZF as CEO

Dr Rolf Breidenbach, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, expressed appreciation for both executives. He acknowledged Dr. Klein’s leadership in stabilizing ZF during challenging times and laying the foundation for the company’s turnaround strategy.

Breidenbach emphasized that Mathias Miedreich is a strong internal successor, recognized for his industry expertise and his achievements in restructuring Division E.

Simon Blümcke, Mayor of Friedrichshafen and Chairman of the Zeppelin Foundation, also extended gratitude to Dr. Klein for his collaboration and contribution to ZF’s progress.

Dr. Klein, who served as CEO since January 2023 and held several senior positions within ZF since 2014, stated that the company had made significant progress through its “Strengthening our Strengths” strategy. He stressed the importance of timely execution of strategic decisions and expressed confidence in ZF’s future under new leadership.

Prof. Dr. Laier, who joined the Board in 2023, highlighted the international growth and stronger global customer relationships achieved in the Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology divisions. He confirmed that these divisions, along with Production and Materials Management, are well-positioned for the future.

ZF to Announce Division Successors

ZF confirmed that announcements regarding the succession of the Board positions for the Electrified Powertrain Technology division as well as the Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology divisions will be made in due course.
