Chennai: ZF Group, a global leader in driveline and chassis technology, has officially inaugurated its Electric Park Brake manufacturing line for the passenger car segment at its Oragadam manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.

The inauguration marks a significant expansion of ZF’s advanced braking capabilities in India and formalises the scale-up of Electric Park Brake manufacturing to support next-generation passenger vehicle platforms.

The new Electric Park Brake manufacturing line aligns with the rapid transition of the Indian automotive market toward electric, connected, and software-defined passenger vehicles.

ZF’s EPB systems are already being supplied to leading Indian OEMs and are integrated into recently launched all-electric passenger vehicles.

With the commissioning of this Electric Park Brake manufacturing line, ZF advances to full industrialisation, positioning India as a key manufacturing and engineering base for safety-critical, electronically controlled braking solutions within its global network.

Designed for scalability, the Oragadam Electric Park Brake line has a peak annual production capacity of 800,000 units. The facility is supported by a growing Indian supplier ecosystem focused on precision mechanical and electronic components, reinforcing localisation and supply chain resilience.

Electric Park Brake Manufacturing Line Strengthens India’s Role in Advanced Braking Technologies

Speaking at the inauguration, Akash Passey, President, ZF Group India, said that the localisation effort advances ZF’s “Make in India for India and the World” strategy.

He noted that the Electric Park Brake manufacturing line at Oragadam facility combines advanced technology with local manufacturing competence and a strong engineering footprint to serve domestic OEM demand while strengthening India’s role as a global supply hub for advanced braking systems.

Dr Peter Holdmann, Member of the Board of Management at ZF and Head of Division Chassis Solutions, highlighted that braking systems are evolving from mechanical assemblies to software-enabled safety technologies.

He explained that ZF Group’s Electric Park Brake replaces conventional mechanical parking brakes with an electronically controlled system optimised for electric and software-defined vehicles, delivering low-drag performance to improve fuel efficiency and extend EV range, while reducing noise, vibration, and harshness.

Andreas Moser, Member of the Board of Management for the Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology Divisions and the India Region, stated that India is a key growth market combining scale with innovation.

He said the Electric Park Brake manufacturing line in Oragadam demonstrates how ZF addresses local market demand with global technologies and reflects a shift toward value-based requirements from leading OEMs.

The Oragadam multi-divisional facility plays a central role in ZF’s India growth roadmap. It is one of ZF’s key manufacturing sites in the country and the company’s 10th facility in Tamil Nadu.

The site serves as an expansion plant for light commercial vehicle operations of ZF Group in India and is not part of ZF Commercial Vehicles Control Systems India Ltd or its subsidiary.

Integrated into the broader braking architecture, the Electric Park Brake enables advanced functions such as dynamic actuation, emergency braking support, and brake pad wear sensing, offering flexibility across passenger car and light commercial vehicle platforms.

Globally, ZF has deployed over 250 million EPB calipers across vehicles worldwide. The inauguration of the Electric Park Brake manufacturing line at Oragadam further strengthens ZF Group’s ability to deliver advanced braking systems at scale while reinforcing India’s growing role in its global braking and chassis technology footprint.
