Pune: Arangham Dance Theatre, under the artistic vision of renowned dancer-choreographer Dr Anita Ratnam, will bring its acclaimed production NAACHIYAR NEXT to Pune.
The performance will be staged on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 6:45 pm at the Shakuntala Jagannath Shetty Auditorium, Erandwane, offering audiences an immersive journey into the mystic poetry of Andal.
Arangham Dance Theatre’s NAACHIYAR NEXT Highlights Andal’s Poetry
Widely celebrated in South India, Andal – also known as Goda – remains an enduring cultural and spiritual icon. Revered as one of the earliest feminist voices, Andal’s devotion to Ranganatha/Krishna continues to inspire generations.

NAACHIYAR NEXT brings her verses alive through a 75-minute performance featuring a 16-member ensemble of eight dancers, four musicians, a technical director, and a stage manager.
The production integrates Indian classical and contemporary dance, theatrical staging, ritual chanting, storytelling, and improvisational movement to present Andal’s passionate poetry.

Dr Anita Ratnam, founder of Arangham Dance Theatre, shared: “Re-telling is like a translation, rather a trans-creation.
Andal’s remarkable life, lived more than a thousand years ago, was filled with devotion, poetry, and passion – at a time when personal worship was forbidden for women.
