TB Elimination: India-Philippines Health Collaboration Deploys Molbio Diagnostics Innovations

Molbio Diagnostics

Goa: The Philippines has intensified its fight against tuberculosis (TB) by adopting Molbio Diagnostics WHO-endorsed Truenat molecular testing systems and newly approved ProRad ultra-portable X-ray devices.

This India–Philippines healthcare collaboration aims to address nearly 190,000 undetected TB cases annually and support the country’s commitment to the UN goal of diagnosing and treating 2.1 million TB cases by 2027.

Currently, 68 Truenat systems are deployed nationwide, delivering rapid, multi-disease point-of-care testing for TB, HIV, HPV, and Hepatitis B & C. A pilot in the Bantayan Islands showcased the platform’s transformative potential, boosting TB detection rates by an unprecedented 1008%.

The Philippines FDA’s recent approval of the ProRad Atlas Ultra-portable X-ray enables integrated screening and diagnosis, ensuring faster patient linkage to treatment.

“Integrating India’s Truenat technology into our healthcare network is pivotal to our TB elimination strategy, especially in remote and underserved regions,” said Dr Theodore J Herbosa, Health Secretary of the Philippines.

He added that this collaboration strengthens bilateral ties – now exceeding $3 billion in trade – and exemplifies how joint innovation in health, technology, and trade can drive mutual progress.

Molbio Diagnostics: Closing the TB Detection Gap

Molbio Diagnostics will further its engagement in the Philippines by hosting a panel at the 31st Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis (PhilCAT) Annual Convention in Manila on August 14–15, 2025.

Globally recognized for its flagship Truenat real-time PCR platform, Molbio offers over 40 tests for infectious and non-infectious diseases and is currently working on a multi-country project exploring tongue swab–based molecular diagnostics to improve TB detection among children and people living with HIV/AIDS.

“By bringing diagnostics closer to communities – whether in remote islands or rural villages – we can close the TB detection gap and strengthen global health systems,” said Shiva Sriram, President of Molbio Diagnostics.
