New Delhi: Quantum teaching initiatives in India are set to expand significantly as approval has been granted for establishing quantum teaching facilities and laboratories in 23 academic institutions across several states, with 100 more institutions currently under consideration.
The move aims to strengthen advanced research and training in emerging quantum technologies under the National Quantum Mission.
The development was shared during the joint monthly meeting of Secretaries of Science Ministries and Departments, chaired by Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space.
Quantum Teaching Infrastructure Expansion
The meeting reviewed key scientific programmes, national initiatives, and measures aimed at strengthening India’s research and innovation ecosystem.
The expansion of quantum teaching infrastructure is expected to support academic research, skill development, and training in advanced quantum technologies across universities and research institutions.

Officials said the initiative will help prepare a skilled workforce capable of contributing to the country’s growing quantum technology ecosystem.
The meeting was attended by senior leadership from India’s scientific ecosystem including Ajay Kumar Sood, Abhay Karandikar, Rajesh S. Gokhale, N. Kalaiselvi, M. Ravichandran, and V. Narayanan, along with senior officials from multiple science ministries and departments.
Strengthening Scientific Collaboration
Discussions during the meeting also focused on strengthening inter-ministerial and intra-ministerial coordination among science departments to promote collaborative research initiatives.
Officials highlighted ongoing efforts to encourage joint projects involving institutions from multiple scientific departments so that expertise across domains can be leveraged to address national research priorities.
In this context, the expansion of quantum teaching laboratories across academic institutions was highlighted as an important step in strengthening India’s advanced research infrastructure.
