Pune Grand Tour 2026 to Debut in January with 437 km UCI-Approved Multi-Stage Race

Pune: India has achieved a major milestone in international cycling as the Pune Grand Tour 2026 officially secures the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Class 2.2 classification, marking the nation’s first-ever Pro Stage Elite Race for Men.

The multi-stage road event, set to be held from January 19 to 23, 2026, is also recognised as an Olympic qualification points race.

Organised jointly by the Pune District Administration and the Government of Maharashtra in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), the Pune Grand Tour 2026 spans four stages and a total distance of 437 km.

The race route will traverse a mix of urban zones, hilly terrains, and rural landscapes, showcasing Maharashtra’s geographic diversity and Pune’s evolving cycling culture.

Pune Grand Tour 2026: A Landmark in Indian Cycling

The UCI’s approval of the Pune Grand Tour 2026 as a Class 2.2 event places India firmly on the global cycling map. The format – modelled after iconic global events such as the Tour de France – is expected to attract professional teams, elite international riders, and Indian athletes aiming for Olympic qualification points.

Calling it a “pivotal moment in Indian sporting history,” Jitendra Dudi (IAS), Pune District Collector and administrative in-charge of the Pune Grand Tour 2026, said the initiative is an ambitious project to make Pune a global cycling hub.

“We see this as a hallmark project integrating sport, tourism, and community pride. The inaugural season of Pune Grand Tour 2026 will establish the foundation for infrastructure and global recognition,” Dudi stated.

Pankaj Singh, President, Cycling Federation of India (CFI), added, “Hosting a UCI Class 2.2 race is a proud milestone for Indian cycling. The Pune Grand Tour 2026 will not only offer our athletes international exposure but also elevate India’s reputation as an emerging cycling nation.”

Welcoming the event, David Lappartient, President, Union Cycliste Internationale, said, “We are delighted to include the Pune Grand Tour 2026 in the UCI Tour calendar. Its recognition as a UCI 2.2 race marks a significant milestone for Indian cycling and demonstrates the region’s commitment to hosting world-class events.”

With its official UCI accreditation, the Pune Grand Tour 2026 is poised to become a recurring international sporting fixture, driving India’s ambitions in professional cycling and sports tourism.
