New Delhi: The NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 has officially opened applications, inviting students from diverse academic backgrounds to participate in a two-month immersive internship aimed at nurturing future professionals in India’s highway infrastructure sector. Interested candidates can apply through the official internship portal by April 15, 2026.

The NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 is scheduled to take place between May and July 2026 and builds upon the success of the Winter Internship Programme and the ongoing six-month internship initiative.

With a focus on providing meaningful, hands-on exposure, the programme offers students an opportunity to engage with one of India’s largest national highway development ecosystems.

Expanded Scope Across Technical and Non-Technical Disciplines

Under its expanded framework, the NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 will tentatively run from May 4 to July 5, 2026, depending on academic calendars.

The programme now includes a wide range of engineering and technical disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, and Data Science/Artificial Intelligence.

In a significant expansion, the NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 has also been extended to non-technical streams. These include Law (BA LLB), Commerce and Sciences (BA/B.Com/B.Sc), Management (MBA in HR, Finance, Marketing), Mass Communication, and Library Science. This broader inclusion aims to enhance participation from students across varied academic domains.

Selected candidates under the NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 will be placed at designated NHAI field offices or at the headquarters in New Delhi, where they will work under the mentorship of experienced NHAI officials.

NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026: Eligibility, Stipend, and Application Process

The NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 is open to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students from premier institutions, including top-ranked institutes under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), leading law universities, management institutes, and reputed mass communication institutions.

Students selected for the NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 will receive a stipend of ₹20,000 per month, along with a certificate upon successful completion of the programme.

Applications for the NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 must be submitted online via the dedicated internship portal. The application system includes separate logins for students and institutions.

Students are required to provide academic and personal details and may indicate preferred project locations where applicable.

Institutions will play a crucial role in verifying and approving student applications on the portal. Only institute-approved applications will be considered for final selection.

Allocation of interns to projects under the NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 will be based on preferences and availability.

Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration

As part of the NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026, institutes have been encouraged to actively share programme details with eligible students, support timely application submissions, and nominate faculty coordinators to facilitate the process and act as points of contact.

Building on Previous Success

The earlier phase of the internship initiative saw strong participation. Launched in December 2025, the winter internship engaged 244 civil engineering students for a one-month programme, while 149 students enrolled in the six-month internship running from January to June 2026.

Building on this success, the NHAI Summer Internship Programme 2026 aims to further strengthen workforce readiness in the infrastructure sector by equipping students with practical exposure and industry insights.
