Pune: The proposed Nigdi to Chakan Metro Corridor via Wakad has taken a significant step forward with MahaMetro submitting its Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Once completed, this Nigdi to Chakan Metro corridor is expected to connect nearly 75% of Pimpri-Chinchwad to the metro network, enhancing public transportation and reducing road congestion.
The Nigdi to Chakan Metro Corridor DPR outlines a 35–40 km corridor starting from Nigdi’s Bhakti-Shakti Chowk and ending at Chakan, covering high-density residential, IT, and industrial zones.

The route will integrate major areas including Ravet, Punawale, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, and Moshi.
Nigdi to Chakan Metro Corridor: Key Junctions for Better Connectivity
- Nashik Phata: Will serve as a crucial junction connecting commuters to Bhosari, Chakan, the Dapodi–Nigdi metro line, and Pune city.
- Bhakti-Shakti Chowk: Will operate as a major interchange station linking multiple city sectors, including Ravet and Wakad, to Chakan.
Addressing Urban Growth and Traffic Challenges
Pimpri-Chinchwad’s population has surpassed three million and continues to grow rapidly. The new metro line is designed to cater to rising travel demand, particularly along the Bhakti-Shakti to Chakan corridor, which holds importance for industrial, educational, and residential commuting.
The extension is projected to not only ease daily traffic congestion but also accelerate socio-economic development in connected regions.

Approval and Implementation Process
Following PCMC’s general body approval, the DPR will be forwarded to the state government, and subsequently to the central government, for final clearance. Upon receiving all necessary approvals, construction will commence.
