Pune: The ongoing heavy vehicle ban in Pimpri-Chinchwad has become a significant concern for industries operating in Chakan, Bhosari, Mahalunge, Talegaon Dabhade, and Ranjangaon.
With traffic police restricting heavy vehicle entry to just four hours daily, businesses report severe disruptions to supply chains, delayed raw material arrivals, production slowdowns, and idle labour hours.
These industrial estates, part of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), are crucial manufacturing hubs supplying goods via Mumbai Port to domestic and international markets.

The current heavy vehicle ban, enforced to reduce urban traffic congestion, is instead causing bottlenecks on major roads linking highways to the estates.
Heavy Vehicle Ban: Industrialists Cite Delays and Idle Time
Under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate — covering Talawade, Nigdi, Chinchwad, Bhosari, Sangvi, Wakad, Bavdhan, Pimpri, Dehuroad, Mahalunge, Chakan, Dighi, Alandi, and Talegaon Dabhade — heavy vehicles are now permitted entry for only four hours a day.
Industrialists say the restricted timings make it impossible to maintain smooth goods movement, leading to missed production targets.
Lack of dedicated truck parking facilities has led to daily roadside queues stretching kilometres. The industry’s reliance on trucks and containers for raw material and finished goods transport has made the ban’s impact even more acute.

Truck Terminal Infrastructure Delays
Two truck terminals — with capacities of 200 and 350 trucks — have been under construction in the Talegaon Dabhade MIDC area since 2023 but remain incomplete.
Industrial bodies have demanded a 500-vehicle capacity truck terminal in the MIDC area, with land allocation near Yelwadi already promised by the government. They are also seeking three new truck terminals in Bhosari MIDC at F-2 Block, T Block, and Bhosari.
Industrialists are urging the authorities to reconsider the heavy vehicle ban in Pimpri-Chinchwad, expedite truck terminal projects, and introduce logistics solutions that balance traffic management with uninterrupted industrial operations.
