New Delhi: The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), through its Project Monitoring Group (PMG), has conducted a high-level review of Mega Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra, assessing critical projects across multiple sectors with a cumulative investment exceeding ₹74,052 crore.

Focus on Railway and Industrial Growth in Mega Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra

The review, held on August 14, 2025, examined 28 key issues impacting 23 major projects in the state, with the railway sector receiving special emphasis for its role in boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.

Among the flagship Mega Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra under discussion was the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) Phase-IIIA, with an investment of ₹33,690 crore.

Designed to modernize suburban rail services in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the project includes new railway lines, advanced signalling systems, and the addition of modern rolling stock to enhance safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.

Another critical project reviewed was the Sinarmas West Coast Project in Raigad District, worth ₹10,500 crore. Developed by Sinar Mas Pulp and Paper, the initiative will expand India’s pulp and paper production capacity, create large-scale employment, and support downstream industries. The project will feature state-of-the-art facilities and improved connectivity to strengthen Maharashtra’s industrial ecosystem.

PMG Strengthens Coordination on Mega Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra

The review meeting was chaired by Praveen Mahto, Principal Economic Advisor, DPIIT, and was attended by senior representatives from central ministries, the Maharashtra state government, and project stakeholders.

The discussions emphasized faster inter-ministerial and state-level coordination to resolve bottlenecks and accelerate implementation timelines.

Mahto reiterated the importance of proactive monitoring, urging private project proponents to utilize PMG’s institutional framework for efficient issue resolution. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring timely delivery of Mega Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra, driving both economic growth and social development.
