Indian Navy Warship Design Bureau to Host National Seminar on Shipbuilding in Delhi

New Delhi: The Warship Design Bureau (WDB) of the Indian Navy will organize a high-profile Shipbuilding Seminar titled “Nation Building Through Shipbuilding” on 23rd July 2025 at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.

The seminar will commemorate the milestone delivery of India’s 100th indigenously designed warship, Y12652 (Udaygiri), on July 1, 2025.

The Warship Design Bureau – established in 1964 as the Central Design Office and later known as the Directorate of Naval Design – has led the design and construction of over 20 classes of warships, including aircraft carriers and seaward defence vessels.

Warship Design Bureau: Vital Role in Naval Self-Reliance

Over the past six decades, it has played a vital role in India’s journey toward naval self-reliance.

The one-day seminar will bring together key stakeholders from the Government of India, Indian Navy, shipyards, industry, classification societies, and academia.

The focus will be on policy evolution, adoption of global best practices, and the advancement of futuristic shipbuilding technologies.

The platform aims to facilitate dialogue on the challenges and opportunities within the Indian shipbuilding ecosystem.
