Hyundai Motor India Foundation Invests INR 2.10 Cr in Drinking Water Facilities for Maval Schools

Pune: The Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has successfully executed its H₂OPE initiative, providing clean drinking water facilities in 108 government schools across Maval Taluka, Pune district.

With a total investment of ₹2.10 crore, the project has positively impacted the health and education of approximately 13,000 beneficiaries, including students, teachers, staff, and local community members.

As part of its commitment to community well-being and the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which mandates safe drinking water in schools, the Hyundai Motor India Foundation equipped schools with ISO-certified RO water purification units, water coolers, and six-layer storage tanks.

Additionally, TDS/pH meters were provided to ensure continuous water quality monitoring.

The initiative was officially handed over at a ceremony held in the office of the Divisional Commissioner, Pune, in the presence of Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Divisional Commissioner – Pune, Jitendra Dudi, District Collector – Pune, Gajanan Patil, CEO – Zilla Parishad, Pune, Sandeep Singh Gill, Superintendent of Police – Pune Rural, and senior Hyundai Motor India officials.

Positive Impact on Students and Communities

The project is expected to bring long-term transformation by improving student health, reducing absenteeism, and promoting better hygiene practices.

School staff received training to operate and maintain the purification systems, while students participated in hygiene awareness sessions and creative competitions to encourage healthy practices.

Commenting on the initiative, Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said: “For every child, clean water is not just a necessity, it is their right. This contribution by Hyundai Motor India Foundation will significantly improve access to safe water in rural government schools of Maval, enabling children to pursue their studies without health concerns holding them back.”
