MediBuddy Health Study: 1 in 4 Corporate Employees Pre-Diabetic

MediBuddy Health Study

Pune: A new MediBuddy Health Study has revealed alarming trends in the rising prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes among corporate employees in India.

The digital healthcare company’s latest corporate health screening data shows a sharp year-on-year increase, underscoring the urgent need for preventive healthcare and workplace wellness strategies.

Rising Diabetes Burden Among Employees

According to the MediBuddy Health Study, between August 2023 and July 2024, 7.89% of employees screened were diabetic, while 19.38% were pre-diabetic. In the following year (August 2024 to July 2025), these figures rose to 8.85% and 24.40%, respectively.

The highest disease burden was recorded in employees aged 31–50, though the 20–30 age group also reported significant increases.

MediBuddy Health Study: Gender-Wise Prevalence Trends

The study further highlights gender differences. Among men, diabetes cases increased from 6.76% to 7.43%, and pre-diabetes from 14.64% to 18.11%. For women, diabetes prevalence rose from 1.13% to 1.42%, while pre-diabetes grew from 4.74% to 6.29%.

Corporate Healthcare Costs Under Pressure

MediBuddy warned that the growing diabetes burden poses a financial challenge for corporates, with rising inpatient department (IPD) costs tied to diabetes management and complications.

The study emphasizes that early screenings, disease management support, and lifestyle modification programs can significantly reduce long-term risks and healthcare expenses.

Commenting on the findings, Dr Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations at MediBuddy, said, “The rising prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes, especially among working-age adults, is a wake-up call for corporate India. Beyond the personal health impact, unmanaged diabetes is one of the biggest contributors to hospital admissions, prolonged recovery times, and spiralling IPD costs. Employers have both an opportunity and a responsibility to integrate preventive healthcare into workplace wellness strategies.”

The MediBuddy Health Study concludes that addressing diabetes through timely detection and workplace wellness programs is vital for safeguarding employee health and reducing long-term healthcare and insurance costs.
