International Diabetes Summit 2026 to Focus on AI, Complications and Cost-Effective Diabetes Care

Pune: The International Diabetes Summit 2026 will mark a significant milestone in India’s ongoing battle against diabetes, as the Chellaram Diabetes Institute hosts its 10th edition from 13th to 15th March 2026.

The International Diabetes Summit 2026 aims to address the growing burden of diabetes and identify practical, scalable solutions to manage the disease and its complications across the country.

The International Diabetes Summit 2026 will be inaugurated by Dr Vinky Rughwani, Administrator of Maharashtra Medical Council, Mumbai, Member of the National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, and President of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society of India. He will grace the inaugural function as the Chief Guest.

A key highlight of the International Diabetes Summit 2026 will be the felicitation of Dr Carani B. Sanjeevi, Professor at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and head of the “Diabetes Immunology” research group at the Center for Molecular Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.

He will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to diabetology and research.

Global Participation and Academic Exchange

The International Diabetes Summit 2026 is expected to attract around 2,000 delegates. The summit will feature comprehensive discussions on managing diabetes complications, cost-effective diabetes care, emerging advances, and the expanding role of technology in diabetes management.

Workshops during the International Diabetes Summit 2026 will focus on AI and Diabetes, MASLD in Diabetes, and a symposium on Endocrinology and Women’s Health. These sessions are designed to provide actionable insights for healthcare professionals working in both rural and urban India.

Eminent international faculty from globally renowned institutions will participate in the International Diabetes Summit 2026. These include experts from Mayo Clinic in the USA; King’s College London, Imperial College London, University of Suffolk, University of Leicester, and University of Edinburgh in the UK; Karolinska Institutet in Sweden; Medical University of Graz in Austria; National University of Singapore; and University of Padua in Italy. Over 70 renowned Indian faculty members will also speak at the International Diabetes Summit 2026.

International Diabetes Summit 2026: Research Awards and Young Investigator Participation

More than 75 young researchers will present free papers at the International Diabetes Summit 2026, competing for the Chellaram Foundation Diabetes Research Awards – 2026 in Basic and Clinical Science categories. The awards carry prize amounts of ₹2,00,000 and ₹1,00,000 in each category, respectively.

By encouraging early-career researchers, the International Diabetes Summit 2026 reinforces its commitment to advancing diabetes research and promoting innovation in clinical and translational sciences.

‘Run for Diabetes’ to Promote Awareness

As part of the International Diabetes Summit 2026, around 500 contestants, including children with type 1 diabetes, will participate in the “Run for Diabetes” – a 3 km and 5 km marathon organised by Chellaram Diabetes Institute and the Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation on Sunday, 15th March.

The initiative aims to raise awareness about diabetes prevention and management while encouraging community participation.
