Hackathon on CCTV Solutions for Law Enforcement

New Delhi: The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has launched a National Hackathon on CCTV Solutions for Law Enforcement, in partnership with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and CyberPeace Foundation.

This initiative is aimed at fostering home-grown, secure, and scalable CCTV technologies to support the evolving operational demands of Indian law enforcement agencies (LEAs).

The hackathon encourages participation from start-ups, innovators, academic institutions, and research bodies to develop next-gen surveillance solutions that strengthen India’s internal security framework.

It is part of the Government’s broader vision for a Cyber-Secure Bharat, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“Through this Hackathon on CCTV Solutions for Law Enforcement, BPR&D is championing indigenous tech development to improve transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency in policing,” said a BPR&D official.

Key Focus Areas of the Hackathon on CCTV Solutions for Law Enforcement:
  • Development of secure and indigenous CCTV hardware and software systems
  • Integration of Artificial Intelligence and smart video analytics
  • Strengthening cybersecurity across CCTV infrastructure
  • Designing cost-effective and high-efficiency surveillance solutions

The curtain raiser event was held on May 9, 2025, with participation from senior officials including the Director General of BPR&D, Director of NCRB, Additional Director General (BPR&D), and Inspector General (Modernization).

The grand finale of the hackathon will take place in the last week of June 2025, where the most promising entries will be rewarded:

  • 1st Prize: ₹5 Lakh
  • 2nd Prize: ₹3 Lakh
  • 3rd Prize: ₹1 Lakh
  • Five Consolation Prizes for exceptional innovations

The CyberPeace Foundation is offering technical support for the initiative, while NCRB is assisting in organizing the event.

The winning solutions are expected to enhance the capabilities of surveillance infrastructure, offering law enforcement agencies smarter tools for public safety, crime prevention, and investigative efficiency.
