Pune: The Azim Premji Foundation has announced the launch of the Azim Premji Health Equity Fellowship, an 18-month immersive learning program designed for postgraduate doctors committed to serving India’s most vulnerable populations.
This initiative is a collaborative effort with 11 prestigious healthcare institutions across the country and aims to build a strong cadre of health professionals with a deep understanding of rural healthcare challenges.

The Azim Premji Health Equity Fellowship offers young doctors the opportunity to work in some of the most remote and underserved areas of India, equipping them with practical clinical experience, community engagement skills, and mentorship from senior medical practitioners.
“A key challenge in achieving health equity is the scarcity of medical professionals in rural areas. This Fellowship addresses that gap by encouraging young doctors to gain hands-on experience while contributing meaningfully to underserved communities,” said a spokesperson from the Azim Premji Foundation.

- Eligibility: Postgraduate medical degree holders
- Work Locations: Remote, rural, and resource-limited areas across India
- Mentorship: Guidance from experienced senior doctors
- Compensation: Honorarium with relocation and travel support
- Benefits: Completion certification and placement assistance
- Language Requirement: Proficiency in Hindi, English, or a relevant regional language
