Mumbai: AT Capital Foundation Limited, the social impact entity of the global AT Capital Group, has pledged €1.5 million towards a transformative five-year project to clean Mumbai’s Thane Creek.
Partnering with The Ocean Cleanup, an international nonprofit organisation known for pioneering scalable plastic collection technologies, the initiative aims to intercept nearly 385 tonnes of plastic waste annually from one of Asia’s most critical ecological zones.

The Thane Creek project is part of The Ocean Cleanup’s 30 Cities Program, which targets the world’s most polluted waterways. AT Capital Foundation’s contribution will support the deployment of Interceptor™ solutions combined with a walkable log-boom system and Interceptor Guard booms.
Waste extraction will be enabled via Direct-to-Shore conveyor systems, with post-collection waste management overseen in coordination with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The cleanup zone is not only a pollution hotspot but also a marine sanctuary and Key Biodiversity Area (KBA), home to mangroves and migratory bird species. The initiative will play a key role in preserving this vital coastal ecosystem.
Arvind Tiku, Founder of AT Capital Group, said, “Our commitment to Thane Creek exemplifies AT Capital Foundation’s mission to fund high-impact environmental, education, and healthcare initiatives. Together with The Ocean Cleanup, we aim to create long-lasting change in one of Mumbai’s most ecologically significant areas.”

Nisha Bakker, Director of Partnerships at The Ocean Cleanup, commented, “AT Capital’s partnership is critical to our efforts in Mumbai. Their support enables us to act swiftly and effectively, taking another step toward our mission of eliminating plastic pollution at its source.”
AT Capital’s portfolio company, Experion Developers, will lead the on-ground project management, ensuring operational execution aligns with the project’s environmental and community objectives.
