Telangana: Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) of DRDO, in collaboration with AIIMS Bibinagar, has successfully launched India’s first indigenously developed Carbon Fibre Foot Prosthesis, named ADIDOC (AIIMS Bibinagar – DRDL Indigenously Developed Optimised Carbon Foot Prosthesis).

This groundbreaking prosthetic, made using advanced carbon fibre materials, was unveiled by Dr G A Srinivasa Murthy, Director of DRDL, and Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bibinagar, at a special launch event held on the AIIMS campus in Telangana.

Carbon Fibre Foot Prosthesis: World-Class Innovation, Made in India

ADIDOC has been biomechanically tested to withstand loads of up to 125 kilograms and comes in three different variants, catering to individuals of varying body weights. Designed to match the performance of globally available models, the prosthetic offers comparable functionality at a fraction of the cost.

While imported carbon fibre foot prosthesis currently retail for around ₹2 lakh, ADIDOC is expected to cost less than ₹20,000, making it a game-changer for amputees from low-income backgrounds. This significant price reduction enhances access to advanced prosthetics and reduces India’s dependence on foreign medical technologies.
