Strengthening IKEA’s Connection with Pune Customers
The launch of the IKEA Pune city store builds on the company’s growing connection with Pune residents. Over the past six years, IKEA has served more than 400,000 customers in Pune through online deliveries, gaining insights into how people in the city live and furnish their homes.
During this period, the company has also built a strong community of over 200,000 IKEA Family members in Pune, reflecting the brand’s popularity among local consumers.
Pune’s diverse population – from young professionals and students setting up their first homes to growing families and pet parents – has influenced the way the company approaches product design and solutions for the city.
The IKEA Pune city store aims to address these evolving needs by offering functional, space-saving furniture and affordable home décor options.
In a city where 2–3 BHK apartments and compact homes are common, every square foot is used efficiently. As a result, many households are increasingly opting for multi-functional furniture, calming earthy tones, and eco-friendly designs that combine comfort with value.
The product selection at the IKEA Pune city store reflects these preferences, offering solutions that focus on flexibility, sustainability, and practical design to support modern urban lifestyles.
Pune’s Strategic Importance in IKEA’s India Journey
According to Patrik Antoni, Pune has played an important role in the company’s India operations. “We have learned so much from the way this city lives- practical yet ambitious, rooted yet forward-looking, and increasingly mindful about sustainable living. That inspires us.
With this store, we are not just opening doors, we are further strengthening our promise to make everyday life at home better for many more people and IKEA’s presence in Maharashtra. Pune has been at the heart of our India journey for many years. Our main distribution centre here supports our stores across the country, making Pune a vital part of our value chain. Today, opening our first store in this city feels both proud and personal,” Antoni said.
The IKEA Pune city store also highlights the city’s operational importance to the company, as Pune houses a major IKEA distribution centre that supports stores across India.
IKEA Pune City Store: Expanding IKEA’s Omnichannel Retail Presence in India
The launch of the IKEA Pune city store is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its omnichannel presence across India.
Currently, IKEA reaches over 300 million visitors across its online and offline platforms nationwide and has built a base of more than 3 million IKEA Family members.
Through a mix of large-format stores, city stores, Plan and Order Points, and e-commerce platforms, IKEA continues to expand its presence in India to reach more households.
With the opening of the IKEA Pune city store, the company aims to make its home furnishing solutions more accessible to residents while strengthening its connection with one of Maharashtra’s fastest-growing urban markets.
