New Delhi: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has joined forces with global technology leaders Ericsson India, Qualcomm Technologies, Cisco Systems, and Nokia Solutions and Networks to launch advanced networking, cybersecurity, 5G and AI Training programmes at its apex training facility, Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training (BRBRAITT) in Jabalpur.
The 5G and AI training initiative marks a decisive step towards establishing the Telecom Innovation, Research and Training Centre (TIRTC) – an industry-led national hub that will focus on advanced telecom R&D, skill-building, and entrepreneurship.

Supported by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the TIRTC is set to become a Centre of Excellence in emerging domains like 6G, 5G, AI, and cybersecurity.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony in New Delhi, Union Minister of Communications and DoNER, Jyotiraditya Scindia, hailed the move as “a landmark step in building a skilled and future-ready telecom workforce through collaboration between BSNL and leading global technology companies.”
He added, “From local to global – India will not just make in India, but make for the world. Jabalpur will be at the heart of this transformation.”
5G and AI Training: Key Highlights of the Collaboration
- Ericsson 5G Centre of Excellence – Hands-on 5G training and online learning via the Ericsson Educate Program for 2,000+ students annually, leveraging BSNL’s training infrastructure.
- Qualcomm Institute – Advanced 5G and AI training with premium online content, live sessions, internships, and sponsored training for the first 100 participants.
- Cisco Networking Academy – Nationwide training in networking, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure, with free online access to Cisco’s curriculum and digital tools.
- Nokia 5G and AI/ML Lab – Specialised training in 5G radio, core networks, and AI/ML applications for 300 students annually, with joint certification from Nokia and BRBRAITT.
Dr Neeraj Mittal, Secretary (Telecom), highlighted the unique nature of the initiative: “This private-public partnership will train not only public sector staff and trainers, but also students and telecom service provider employees through short, medium, and long-term courses.”

With the capacity to train over 2,000 students annually in its first phase and an investment exceeding ₹1 crore, the programme supports India’s flagship Digital India, Skill India, Make in India, Startup India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions.
By equipping India’s youth with 5G and AI training and cutting-edge skills, the TIRTC in Jabalpur is poised to become a global hub for telecom innovation, research, and advanced skilling – strengthening India’s position in the global digital economy.
