Henkel India Flags Off Mid-Haul Re-Powered Electric Truck Operations

Pune: In a major step toward decarbonizing India’s commercial logistics sector, Henkel India, in collaboration with a leading logistics solutions provider and an EV retrofitting company, has officially flagged off the nation’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations.

This pilot project marks a significant milestone in India’s green mobility evolution, with inaugural routes launched between Chennai and Pune (1,321 km) and Pune and Halol (713 km) – critical corridors in the country’s industrial ecosystem.

The electric trucks, retrofitted with advanced electric powertrain kits, offer:

  • 250 km range per charge
  • 8-ton payload capacity
  • Over 1,200 kg of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions saved per round trip on the Chennai–Pune route

This initiative exemplifies Henkel’s deep commitment to climate action. As part of its global sustainability roadmap, the company is targeting net-zero emissions by 2045, with a focus on achieving:

  • 90% absolute emission reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions
  • 90% reduction across Scope 3 via carbon-efficient logistics, eco-design, and supplier collaboration

“Sustainable logistics is integral to our climate strategy,” said a Henkel spokesperson. “Mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations are a critical shift toward greener freight, and we aim to replicate this model across our value chain.”

With logistics contributing significantly to global carbon emissions, this transition from diesel-based fleets to electric powertrains signals a scalable and impactful shift in India’s transportation future.
