New Delhi: India’s textile exports recorded strong growth in August 2026, rising 16.1% year-on-year to ₹29,776 crore, compared with ₹25,656 crore in August 2025.
During April–August 2026, cumulative textile exports reached ₹1.43 lakh crore, registering a 10.3% increase over the corresponding period of the previous year.
The growth in textile exports was broad-based across several major textile segments, with cotton, man-made textiles, carpets, handicrafts and ready-made garments all recording year-on-year growth during August.
Cotton Exports Grow 24.1%
In August 2026, exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products increased by 24.1%. The segment was among the key contributors to the overall growth in India’s textile exports during the month.
During the April–August 2026 period, cumulative cotton textiles exports grew by 18.0%, maintaining strong momentum in India’s textile exports.
Man-Made Textile Exports Increase 19.9%
Exports of man-made yarn, fabrics and made-ups also registered significant growth in August 2026, increasing by 19.9%.
For the April–August 2026 period, cumulative man-made textiles exports rose by 13.6%, adding to the overall expansion in textile exports.
Carpet Exports Rise 15%
India’s carpet exports recorded 15.0% growth in August 2026. On a cumulative basis, carpet exports increased by 11.9% during April–August 2026.
The growth in carpets contributed to the broader performance of India’s exports across key product categories.
Handicrafts Register 41.4% Growth
Handicrafts, excluding handmade carpets, recorded particularly strong growth during August 2026, with exports increasing by 41.4%.
The segment also posted substantial cumulative growth during April–August 2026. Handicrafts exports increased by 44.0%, making it one of the fastest-growing segments within India’s textile exports during the period.
Ready-Made Garment Exports Maintain Positive Momentum
Ready-made garments of all textiles continued to register positive growth in August 2026. Exports in the segment increased by 6.1% during the month.
The continued growth across apparel and other textile categories supported the overall performance of India’s exports during August.
Overall, cumulative textile exports during April–August 2026 reached ₹1.43 lakh crore, marking 10.3% growth compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
The sustained growth across major segments reflects the increasing competitiveness and diversification of India’s export basket, supported by improved market access, policy interventions and continued efforts towards value addition and market diversification.
The textile sector remains an important contributor to manufacturing, employment and India’s overall export growth.
