Michelin has announced the launch of the Michelin Primacy 5 in India, introducing its latest premium tyre engineered for sedans and SUVs.
The Michelin Primacy 5 also marks a significant milestone for the company as it becomes the first Michelin passenger car tyre to be manufactured in India for Indian consumers.
Designed to address the evolving mobility needs of Indian motorists, the Michelin Primacy 5 combines advanced Michelin tread pattern optimisation with next-generation rubber compounds to deliver long-lasting safety, ride comfort, handling and energy efficiency for internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).
Speaking during the launch event in Chennai, Shantanu Deshpande, Managing Director, Michelin India, said: “India’s premium mobility landscape is evolving rapidly, with growing demand for high-performance, safe, and sustainable tyre solutions across sedans, SUVs, and electric vehicles.

Manufactured in India for Indian drivers, the Primacy 5 has been developed and tested on the vehicles most driven in the country, benchmarked against leading competitors, and validated by an independent testing agency.

Michelin Primacy 5 focuses on safety and longer tyre life
The Michelin Primacy 5 builds on Michelin’s premium passenger mobility portfolio by delivering enhanced safety performance.
According to the company, the tyre offers wet braking distances that are up to 8 metres shorter when new and 9 metres shorter when worn compared to leading competing tyres in the same category. It also provides a 4-metre shorter dry braking distance than competing products.
The tyre incorporates Michelin’s EverTread and EverGrip technologies, which are designed to maintain grip performance throughout the tyre’s lifecycle while supporting longevity.
Michelin also stated that the Michelin Primacy 5 delivers 8% more tyre mileage than its predecessor, the MICHELIN Primacy 4ST, reinforcing its focus on durability alongside safety.
Michelin Primacy 5 delivers enhanced ride comfort
The Michelin Primacy 5 has been designed to improve everyday driving comfort. According to Michelin, it achieves a 9% better comfort score compared to competing tyres in the same category.
The company attributes this improvement to a newly developed tread pattern aimed at reducing road noise while maintaining tyre robustness, thereby enhancing the overall driving experience.
Michelin Primacy 5 is designed for EVs and ICE vehicles
The Michelin Primacy 5 has been developed, manufactured and tested to meet the requirements of India’s evolving mobility ecosystem. It is optimised for both electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Michelin said the tyre effectively manages the higher torque and weight characteristics of modern vehicles while delivering durability, ride comfort and consistent performance.
Featuring Michelin’s low-noise characteristics and enhanced ride quality, the tyre is intended to improve everyday driving comfort.
The company also said the Michelin Primacy 5 delivers a 6.5% improvement in energy efficiency over the MICHELIN Primacy 4ST, supporting lower fuel consumption for ICE vehicles and improved driving range for electric vehicles.
Michelin Primacy 5 receives international recognition
The Michelin Primacy 5 was awarded the “Tyre of the Year 2025” title at the Tyre Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence, recognising its product innovation.
Availability
Starting August 2026, the Michelin Primacy 5 will be available through all MICHELIN Tyres & Service stores as well as approximately 800 MICHELIN authorised dealers across India.
