Montra Electric Launches E-27 Electric Tractor Dealership in Pune

Montra Electric

Pune: Montra Electric, the clean mobility arm of the diversified Murugappa Group, has marked its entry into Maharashtra with the inauguration of its first electric tractor dealership in Pune.

With this move, Montra Electric aims to offer farmers and industrial users a reliable alternative to diesel-powered tractors, positioning its E-27 model as a solution to rising fuel uncertainties.

The launch by Montra Electric comes at a time when evolving global geopolitical dynamics are creating volatility in conventional fuel supply chains and pricing.

For the agricultural sector, where diesel remains a critical operating input, Montra Electric’s E-27 electric tractor presents a sustainable alternative that helps reduce dependence on fuel and offers greater cost predictability.

The Pune region represents a strategic market for Montra Electric, driven by a mix of agricultural and industrial demand. Farming hubs such as Baramati, Indapur, Junnar, and Shirur generate consistent demand for tractors used in cultivation, haulage, and allied applications.

Simultaneously, industrial corridors including Chakan, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Wagholi, and Pune city contribute to tractor usage across construction, logistics, and infrastructure activities. This dual demand ecosystem positions Montra Electric to tap into both rural and urban-industrial segments.

The Pune dealership, operated by Chowgule Industries Private Limited, will retail Montra Electric’s E-27 tractor—India’s first ARAI-certified electric tractor.

The facility is equipped with dedicated sales and service infrastructure to ensure operational uptime and ownership reliability for customers adopting Montra Electric solutions.

The E-27 from Montra is engineered to deliver 27 HP equivalent power and 90 Nm torque through a permanent magnet synchronous motor.

It is designed to handle core farm applications such as ploughing, tilling, spraying, and haulage. The tractor is available in both 2WD and 4WD configurations, offering flexibility across diverse field conditions.

Powered by a 22.37 kWh LFP prismatic-cell battery pack, the E-27 delivers an operating runtime of approximately 4.5 hours and can be fully charged in 2.15 hours.

Montra Electric has equipped the tractor with an 8F+2R side-shift transmission, dual-speed PTO (540 and 1,000 rpm), and a hydraulic lifting capacity of 720 kg, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of agricultural implements. Pricing for Montra Electric tractors starts at ₹10.75 lakh (ex-showroom).

Beyond performance, Montra Electric emphasizes enhanced operator experience through zero noise, zero vibration, and reduced maintenance requirements.

By eliminating diesel dependency, the E-27 also contributes to lower operational costs while complying with national safety and performance standards through ARAI certification.

Commenting on the development, Harish Prasad, CEO, Montra Electric Tractors, said, “Fuel dynamics are becoming increasingly complex, with external factors now playing a more pronounced role in cost structures for farmers.

Our E-27 Electric tractors present a structurally more stable alternative by reducing dependence on diesel while maintaining operational performance. Our entry into Maharashtra is aligned with our focus on enabling access to this transition in key agricultural markets.”

On the inauguration, Vijay Chowgule, Chairman, Chowgule Industries Private Limited, added, “There is a clear shift towards solutions that offer greater predictability in both cost and operations.

The E-27 addresses this requirement through a combination of performance, lower running costs, and simplified ownership. Through this dealership in Pune, we are focused on supporting customers with the right ecosystem to evaluate and adopt electric mechanisation.”

The Maharashtra expansion underscores Montra Electric’s broader strategy to strengthen its retail and service network in regions witnessing increasing adoption of sustainable and economically viable farm solutions.
