No Shortage of Piped Natural Gas in Bengaluru, Says GAIL at BCIC Industry Interaction

Piped Natural Gas

Bengaluru: There is no shortage of Piped Natural Gas supply in Bengaluru, and hotels, eateries, and industries connected to the PNG network will continue receiving uninterrupted gas supply without any disruption to operations, according to officials from GAIL Gas Limited.

The assurance regarding Piped Natural Gas availability was provided by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Chief General Manager (CGD) & Officer-in-Charge of GAIL Gas Limited, during an interactive session on ‘Natural Gas Supply Outlook and Industry Preparedness’ organised by Bangalore Chamber of Industry & Commerce (BCIC).

Speaking at the session, Singh reiterated that Piped Natural Gas supply in the city remains stable and fully under control, reassuring businesses that depend on PNG for daily operations.

“Piped Natural Gas supply in Bengaluru remains stable and fully under control. Industries, hotels and commercial establishments that are connected to the PNG network need not be concerned, as there is no disruption in supply and business operations will continue uninterrupted.

Those eateries and hotels which are on commercial LPG and are concerned about supply can switch over to PNG line subject to the availability within a matter of just two months,” explained Singh.

Industry Body Welcomes Clarity on Piped Natural Gas Supply

Industry representatives attending the meeting welcomed the clarity on Piped Natural Gas supply and appreciated GAIL’s outreach to stakeholders.

K Ravi, Senior Vice President of the Bangalore Chamber of Industry & Commerce, said the engagement helped address industry concerns regarding LPG and PNG availability in the city.

“We appreciate GAIL for engaging directly with industry and addressing concerns regarding the availability LPG and PNG in Bengaluru. Reliable and uninterrupted energy supply is critical for the smooth functioning of industries, hotels and commercial establishments in the city.

The interaction has reassured the industry that PNG supply remains stable and will continue without disruption. BCIC will continue to work closely with energy providers and government agencies to ensure that industries in Bengaluru have access to clean, efficient and dependable fuel sources,” Ravi said.

Government Measures to Manage Piped Natural Gas Supply

Addressing rumours regarding LPG shortages in the city, Singh said the government has increased domestic LPG production, assuring domestic consumers that there is no reason for concern.

At the same time, the expansion of Piped Natural Gas infrastructure is continuing to help more businesses and households transition to PNG.

“We at GAIL are steadily expanding our pipeline network and ready to provide fresh pipeline gas connections across the city of Bengaluru so that more consumers can shift to Piped Natural Gas, which is not only efficient but also a cleaner and more sustainable energy solution. India is not entirely dependent on a single international source, as natural gas imports are sourced from multiple regions,” Singh added.

He also referred to a gazette notification issued by the Government of India aimed at better management of natural gas supply across sectors.

According to the notification, industrial and commercial users will receive up to 80% of their average gas consumption over the past six months, while domestic users and the CNG segment will continue to receive 100% supply.

The measure has been introduced to rationalise consumption and ensure equitable distribution of Piped Natural Gas amid global supply uncertainties.

Singh clarified that industries may continue to consume beyond the 80% limit if required; however, the additional consumption will be billed under a different pricing band. He noted that the temporary rationalisation is designed to discourage wastage and promote efficient utilisation of Piped Natural Gas while ensuring uninterrupted supply across sectors.

Stakeholders from multiple sectors – including hospitality, manufacturing, and food processing – participated in the discussion and shared their concerns and suggestions regarding Piped Natural Gas infrastructure and supply stability.

The engagement between industry and GAIL highlighted the ongoing efforts to strengthen Piped Natural Gas distribution networks and support Bengaluru’s industries with reliable and cleaner fuel alternatives.
