Noida: The Aerodrome License has been granted to Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for the Noida International Airport located at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
The granting of the Aerodrome License marks a key milestone in the development of the greenfield airport project in northern India.
The Aerodrome License has been issued to YIAPL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, which is developing the Noida International Airport under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India.
The concession period for the project commenced on October 1, 2021, and will remain valid for a period of 40 years.

With the Aerodrome License, the Noida International Airport has been approved under the Public Use category for all-weather operations. The airport features a runway with an orientation of 10/28 and dimensions measuring 3,900 metres by 45 metres.
The facility is supported by advanced infrastructure including an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and an Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) system, which together enable continuous 24×7 operations.
The aerodrome infrastructure approved under the Aerodrome License includes parking stands for 24 Code C aircraft and 02 Code D/F aircraft. It is also equipped with Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Category 9 facilities, enabling the airport to handle large wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300ER.
The Noida International Airport is being developed in four phases along with a multi-modal cargo hub. In the first phase, the airport will operate with a single runway and one passenger terminal, providing the capacity to handle around 12 million passengers annually.
After the completion of all development phases, the airport is expected to handle up to 70 million passengers per year, positioning it as a major aviation hub serving the National Capital Region and Western Uttar Pradesh.
The granting of the Aerodrome License aligns with the broader vision of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to build a robust aviation ecosystem across India.
Over the past decade, the country’s civil aviation sector has witnessed significant expansion. The number of operational airports in India has increased from 74 in 2014 to 164 today, while the country has emerged as the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world.

Aerodrome License: New Airport to Help Reduce Congestion at Existing Airports
India continues to expand its aviation network through a balanced strategy that includes the development of new greenfield airports, as well as the upgrading of existing brownfield airports and regional airstrips.
This expansion is being supported by flagship initiatives such as the UDAN scheme, which aims to enhance regional connectivity across the country.
Looking ahead, India’s long-term aviation roadmap targets the development of over 400 airports by 2047, which is expected to further strengthen connectivity, drive economic growth, and support national integration.
Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Union Minister of Civil Aviation, congratulated the Government of Uttar Pradesh on the milestone, noting that the development of Noida International Airport represents a significant step toward improving aviation connectivity in the National Capital Region and Western Uttar Pradesh.
He stated that the world-class airport will boost regional economic growth, tourism, and investment, while offering a seamless passenger experience by combining Swiss efficiency with Indian hospitality. He also emphasized that the new airport will help reduce congestion at existing airports in the region.
