Stryker Precision Meta OS VR Workshop Brings Immersive Shoulder Surgery Training to Pune

Stryker Precision Meta OS VR Workshop

Pune: The Stryker Precision Meta OS VR Workshop played a transformative role in introducing young orthopaedic surgeons to advanced shoulder procedures during the recently concluded two-day Shoulder Conclave in Pune.

The Stryker Precision Meta OS VR Workshop emerged as a key highlight of the event, demonstrating how immersive simulation is reshaping surgical education.

Designed to closely replicate a real operating theatre environment, the Stryker Precision Meta OS VR Workshop enabled participants to virtually perform shoulder replacement procedures, manage complex humerus fractures, and explore intricate shoulder anatomy with striking realism.

Powered by advanced simulation technology from Stryker, the Meta OS platform recreated the look, feel, and step-by-step surgical workflow, allowing doctors to practise repeatedly before operating on actual patients.

The Stryker Precision Meta OS VR Workshop thus offered a risk-free setting to refine technical skills.

Stryker Precision Meta OS VR: Helping Surgeons Refine Approach

Dr Ashish Babhulkar, renowned shoulder specialist from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital (DMH), said such VR-based initiatives significantly enhance spatial understanding, hand–eye coordination, and procedural accuracy.

“Unlike conventional learning methods, the immersive platform provides real-time feedback, helping surgeons refine their approach, understand implant positioning and anticipate intraoperative challenges in a risk-free setting.

The system can simulate shoulder arthroplasty, rotator cuff repair planning and fracture fixation strategies. VR can shorten the learning curve for young surgeons while improving overall surgical confidence and consistency,” Dr Babhulkar explained.

He added that these technologies are regularly implemented at DMH, as the Department of Shoulder and Sports Injuries continues to update itself with the latest advances, ultimately benefitting patients universally.

According to him, the Stryker Precision Meta OS VR Workshop represents a significant step towards integrating digital innovation into mainstream orthopaedic training.

“Technology-driven education is rapidly becoming integral to orthopaedic training worldwide. By combining evidence-based surgical principles with cutting-edge digital tools, programmes such as the VR Workshop are reshaping how future surgeons prepare for complex procedures,” said Dr Babhulkar.

Participants described the Stryker Precision Meta OS VR Workshop as transformative, noting that the opportunity to rehearse surgeries multiple times substantially improved their preparedness, precision, and confidence in handling real-life cases.

The immersive environment allowed them to visualise anatomy in three dimensions and practise surgical steps methodically before entering an actual operating room.
