Chennai: SWITCH Mobility, a global leader in electric buses and light commercial vehicles and part of the Hinduja Group, today flagged off SWITCH EiV12 Low Floor Buses for city transport from Central Bus Depot in Chennai.

The rollout of the SWITCH EiV12 forms part of a centralised deployment of 145 electric buses, comprising 100 AC and 45 Non-AC city buses at the Central Depot.

The flag-off ceremony for the SWITCH EiV12 buses was undertaken by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, in the presence of S S Sivasankar, Hon’ble Minister for Transport, Government of Tamil Nadu.

The occasion underscored Tamil Nadu’s continued commitment to strengthening sustainable urban mobility and improving air quality, aligned with the Government of India’s vision for “Disabled-Friendly means of transport” and “No Emission Buses.”

SWITCH EiV12: Scalable Electric Public Transport Solutions

Manufactured at SWITCH Mobility’s state-of-the-art facility in Tamil Nadu, the SWITCH EiV12 Low Floor Bus reflects the company’s ‘Make in India for the World’ vision.

The SWITCH EiV12 integrates advanced global technology with Indian manufacturing excellence to support scalable electric public transport solutions.

The SWITCH EiV12 Low Floor Bus features an ultra-low entry design with kneeling and tilting mechanisms for effortless boarding.

Floor-mounted batteries ensure a low centre of gravity and superior stability, enhancing operational safety. The SWITCH EiV12 also comes equipped with rear-mounted charger ports to enable quick and ergonomic charging.

Accessibility remains a key highlight of the SWITCH EiV12, with a large manual or automated wheelchair ramp designed to enhance inclusivity.

Panoramic glass windows create a spacious and airy interior, while a Fire Detection and Suppression System strengthens onboard safety standards.

The buses are powered by advanced SWITCH iON technology that monitors more than 140 parameters with low latency and provides over 80 alerts.

Dual gun fast-charging enables quick turnarounds, and silent operation ensures comfortable, inclusive mobility for seniors, people with special needs, and parents with prams.

With the deployment of 525 buses thus far with Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), the introduction of the EiV12 further aligns with the Government’s vision to scale electric bus operations across the city.

The strategic rollout of the SWITCH EiV12 fleet is expected to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, improve air quality, and deliver safer, more comfortable commutes for millions of daily bus commuters, setting new benchmarks in sustainable urban transportation.
