New Delhi: The National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), has launched the beta version of the NSO MCP Server for the eSankhyiki portal – the national portal for official statistics.
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a technology that enables users to connect directly with datasets through their own artificial intelligence tools and applications.
This launch forms part of NSO’s ongoing effort to make official statistics more accessible to citizens, researchers, and businesses.
- The beta version currently includes seven data products:
- Periodic Labour Force Survey
- Consumer Price Index
- Annual Survey of Industries
- Index of Industrial Production
- National Account Statistics
- Wholesale Price Index
- Environmental Statistics.
Additional datasets will be added in the coming months.

NSO MCP Server Strengthens Data Accessibility and AI Integration
The NSO MCP Server enables users to query datasets directly without downloading large files, integrate official statistics into their own analytical tools, automate reports using current statistics, and access multiple datasets through a single connection.
This reduces the time required for data access and allows users to focus more on analysis and decision-making.
The initiative represents a step toward building the data infrastructure required for Viksit Bharat. It aims to strengthen data-driven policymaking across all levels of government and enable citizens to participate in development through improved access to information.
The launch comes ahead of the AI Impact Summit scheduled from February 15–20, 2026, demonstrating the agency of NSO India in creating meaningful impact in the data ecosystem using emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
The initiative aligns with the objectives of Working Group 6 on Democratising AI, chaired by Dr Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI.

By removing barriers between users and official statistics, the NSO MCP Server will help data users complete their work faster, allow businesses to make informed decisions, and give policymakers immediate access to essential data. Government datasets can now be integrated directly into commonly used AI tools.
The current release includes seven datasets covering economic and social indicators. Additional products from the eSankhyiki portal will be onboarded progressively based on user feedback and technical readiness.
Users can access the MCP server through the Ministry’s data innovation portal, where technical documentation and support are available online.
