Noida: HCLSoftware, the software business division of HCLTech, has announced its intent to acquire Wobby, an early-stage AI startup based in Antwerp, Belgium, in a move aimed at strengthening its GenAI-driven data analytics offerings.
The HCLSoftware Wobby acquisition is focused on enhancing AI Data Analyst Agent capabilities to help enterprises derive faster and more accurate business insights from complex data environments.
The acquisition aligns with growing demand for advanced metadata management, data catalog, and data governance solutions within HCLSoftware’s Data & AI division, Actian.
Over the past five years, Actian has reported steady growth driven by enterprise data management adoption.

The addition of agentic AI Data Analyst capabilities is expected to further enable customers to interact directly with raw data and generate on-demand insights using natural language.

Wobby develops AI Data Analyst Agents that allow users to query complex datasets through a natural language interface and receive actionable insights in real time.
Its platform is built on a proprietary semantic layer and agentic architecture designed to interpret business context, automate analytical workflows, and deliver high-quality outputs at scale.
These capabilities are expected to complement the knowledge graph functionality of the Actian Data Intelligence Platform.
Commenting on the development, Marc Potter, CEO of Actian and Portfolio General Manager of HCLSoftware’s Data & AI division, said that enterprises are increasingly seeking self-service analytics supported by reliable AI-driven insights.
He noted that integrating Wobby’s LLM-powered natural language analytics with Actian’s governed semantic layer will support scalable and context-rich GenAI initiatives.
