“This recognition is a testament to the efforts of many – our Sitaras, their families, schools in the K-West Ward, thousands of student mentors, faculty, administration team, and volunteers who have contributed to this journey,” said Dean Nagaraj.
Empowering Mumbai’s Underprivileged Youth through Mentorship and Skills
Since its inception in 2008, SPJIMR Abhyudaya has empowered children from Mumbai’s underserved K-West ward through mentorship, after-school learning, and financial assistance.
Embedded within SPJIMR’s PGDM curriculum, the initiative ensures every management student contributes meaningfully to social development. To date, 4,046 student mentors have guided 1,016 “Sitaras” (stars), helping them complete education and achieve career aspirations.
Driving Innovation and Self-Reliance among Sitaras
In recent years, SPJIMR Abhyudaya has strengthened its community engagement through Design Thinking labs and entrepreneurship education.
These efforts have enabled participants to transition from self-employment to entrepreneurship, fostering skills that support long-term livelihoods. The programme plays a vital role in keeping children – particularly girls – in education while equipping them for sustainable futures.
