Lonavala: Tata Power conducted its annual Tata Power Plantation Drive at Walwhan Garden, Lonavala, with active participation from over 200 volunteers.

The initiative brought together Tata Power employees and colleagues from across Tata Group companies to reinforce the region’s green cover by planting more than 250 native saplings and sowing over 1,000 seeds.

Tata Power Plantation Drive Continues Five-Decade Legacy

Employee volunteering has been central to Tata Power’s culture for over a century, making it one of the leading companies in per capita volunteering hours within the Tata Group. Over the past five decades, the Tata Power Plantation Drive has transformed Walwhan Garden into a recognized biodiversity hotspot.

Today, the Garden is home to orchids, reptiles, amphibians, bird species, and aquatic life. It has also evolved into a hub for biodiversity conservation and environmental education, serving as a research and learning ground for students and scientists in botany, zoology, and allied sciences.

Tata Power Plantation Drive Adds Millions of Saplings Across Hydro Catchments

Since 1970, Tata Power has planted more than 15 million seeds and saplings across hydro catchment areas, supported by employees and community volunteers. In the current monsoon season alone, nearly two lakh native saplings have been planted in these catchment landscapes. These efforts have helped restore habitats, enrich biodiversity, and create seasonal livelihood opportunities for local communities.

Focus on Native Species and Ecosystem Resilience

The Tata Power Plantation Drive prioritizes native species endemic to the Northern Western Ghats, ensuring ecological restoration and enhanced biodiversity. This year’s initiative also included seed sowing in steep terrains, expanding the regenerative impact across a broader landscape. Beyond ecological gains, the plantation activities deepened community engagement and collective ownership of sustainability initiatives.
